Your vacation is booked and approaching fast. Why not get in the vacay spirit and make some cute little goodie bags for the travelers in your group? I personally get a kick out of making travel favors whenever I go on a trip. I mean, who wouldn’t want a gift of travel essentials? Continue reading to get my tips and tricks for creating affordable travel goodie bags!
Pictured above are three different goodie bags that I made for tropical vacations. You’ll notice that both bags contain similar items. Here’s a list of favors that I like to include and why:
If you’re traveling on an airplane, this is an essential component to include in your travel bags. Airplanes are crawling with germs. I purchased my little hand sanitizers from Bath & Body Works. If you buy them in larger quantities, they cost less. You can take it one step further and tailor the scent of the sanitizer to your destination. I personally chose pure paradise and island margarita. While hand sanitizer can help de-germ your hands, the next tip can help you attack the bacteria lurking in other parts of the plane.
While this item is not pictured in any of the goodie bags above, it’s a travel necessity that I never go without. Those tray tables on airplanes are basically coated in germs. I’m really making you excited to go on an airplane now, aren’t I? No fear – just be prepared and pop some wipes in your travel favors. After all, no one wants to get sick during or after vacation from germs they picked up on the plane.
No one wants chapped lips, especially if you’re traveling to a place where it feels like the sun is burning off a layer of your skin – don’t worry, the next essential is catered towards preventing just that. Lip balms are relatively inexpensive items to include in your favors. Keep the cost lower by buying in value packs. As with the hand sanitizers, have fun by choosing flavors that are relevant to your vacationing spot. I chose Starburst-flavored Lip Smackers and Tropical-flavored Chapsticks.
Here’s the essential to help prevent your skin from burning off as mentioned above. If you’re traveling somewhere with an abundance of sunshine, consider including sunscreen in your bags. I purchased little tubes of Banana Boat in the travel section of Target for under a $1 each. Your fellow travelers will thank you when they start to run low on SPF. No one wants to pay $30 for a bottle of sunscreen at the hotel gift shop.
This addition is especially great if you’re flying on an airplane. Suggest your travel companions pop a piece of gum before take off. The chewing will aid in popping their ears when the air pressure changes.
Tissues are great for a multitude of purposes. From spills to runny noses, it never hurts to have a tissue on hand.
What’s the point of compiling a bunch of cute, fun-sized travel essentials if you have nothing equally adorable to put them in? I purchased the pictured colorful bags at my local craft store in the baking section. You could also stuff your goodies in cellophane bags sealed off with a colorful ribbon.
Be mindful of the 3-1-1 rule when going through airport security with your liquid travel essentials. It may be wise to pass your goodie bags out to your travel companions before going through security. That way, everyone will have adequate time to pack them in their carry-on bags and stay in compliance with TSA guidelines.
