I have yet to meet a person who likes clutter. No one necessarily goes out on a mission to make their surroundings messy or disorganized – it’s just a byproduct of living. It seems that no matter how diligently I try to keep things in order, they could always use a revamp to straighten ’em up.
To help you de-clutter and harmonize your space, I offer you my step-by-step tutorial of how to decorate and organize your drawers. I chose to tidy up the makeup drawer in my bathroom, but you can apply this to any of the drawers in your home.
Step One: Collect Your Supplies
For this crafty DIY, you’ll need:
- Wrapping paper of your choice
- Clear tape
- Lids from gift boxes (I used the lids from GLOSSYBOX subscription boxes – make sure the boxes fit in your drawer before you begin)
Step Two: Line Your Drawer
You’ll want to begin by lining your drawer with your wrapping paper of choice. To do so, measure your wrapping paper to the length and width of your drawer & cut to size. Apply tape to the back of your cut wrapping paper and place into your drawer, pressing the paper down flat.
Step Three: Wrap Your Boxes
Once your drawer is perfectly-lined, it’s time to wrap your box lids. This step is optional and can be bypassed if you like the way your boxes look on their own. I chose to wrap one of my box lids and leave the other unwrapped.
Begin by cutting out a sheet of your desired wrapping paper several inches larger than the size of your lid. Once your paper is cut out, trace around the perimeter of the box using a pencil.
After tracing an outline of your box, extend your lines to the edges of the paper, as pictured above – it helps to use the edge of the box to do this. Once you have your outline, cut out your wrapping paper to reveal the shape of a plus sign.
Place your box in the center of the shape, and proceed to fold and tape down the flaps of the wrapping paper – starting with the shorter ones first. Place pieces of rolled or double-stick tape on the inner edge of the box to ensure the paper adheres flat and secure.
Once your box is all wrapped, take a piece of tape and wrap it around each corner to prevent the paper from lifting.
Step Four: Place Your Boxes in Your Drawer & Fill
Now that your boxes are wrapped and ready to go, it’s time to pop them in your decoratively-lined drawer and fill ’em up! You can then gaze at your tidy decorative drawers in admiration.
