There’s just something whimsical about artwork that shimmers. I love taking a fun piece of art to the next level by transforming simple black graphics into shiny foiled magnificence. Believe it or not, this can be done in a matter of minutes with only a few simple materials. Keep reading to learn how to glam up that black & white art of yours.
For this shimmering DIY, you’ll need:
In order for this transformation to work properly, you need to have your prints printed using a laser printer rather than an inkjet. Laser printers print with toner, rather than ink. The toner is what the foil reacts with when it adheres to the design.
Don’t have a laser printer? No fear! Have your prints printed out or copied at your local office supply store. I made copies of mine at Office Depot for mere pocket change.
Begin by cutting a piece of foil large enough to completely cover your print. Take another piece of paper and place on the top of your foil-covered graphic to keep it from moving around.
Run your covered print through the heated laminator to begin the magical foiling process.
Once the design comes out, peel back the foil to reveal your glimmering results.
You’ll be left with a beautiful foil print that looks like it took hours to create. Frame your design, put it on display, and admire the way your print sparkles in the light.
That was easy – wasn’t it?
